07/01/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The St. Louis Cardinals are once again on the outside looking in when it comes to the National League Central Division. Tonight they'll open a four-game series with the rival Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium.
The Cardinals entered Wednesday's action in first place by a half-game over Cincinnati, but exchanged positions with the Reds after dropping a 4-2 decision to close out a three-game home series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Cincinnati beat Philadelphia, 4-3, to regain the top spot.
Arizona's Chris Young hit a two-run homer and Barry Enright picked up a win in his major league debut, while St. Louis veteran Jeff Suppan (0-4) remains winless on the season after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on nine hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings for St. Louis.
Matt Holliday and Jason LaRue both knocked in a run for the Cardinals, who had won three of four coming in.
Milwaukee, meanwhile, sits on the fringes of contention in third place, trailing the Reds by 8 1/2 games after Chris Johnson went 4-for-4 with a two- run double and Wandy Rodriguez threw seven strong innings in Houston's 5-1 win in the rubber match of a three-game set at Miller Park.
Jonathan Lucroy drove in the lone run for the Brewers, who won seven of nine coming in.
Dave Bush (3-6) was tagged with the loss for yielding two runs on five hits with five walks in six innings. The righty finished with three strikeouts.
Journeyman right-hander Blake Hawksworth, who was drafted in 2001 but didn't reach the majors for eight years, makes the third start of his big-league career for St. Louis.
The 27-year-old Canadian export was 4-0 in 30 relief outings for the Cardinals last season and has come in from the bullpen 21 times in 23 appearances this year.
He was ripped for seven hits and six runs in a 12-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 7 in California, then earned a win after allowing just two hits and one earned run in five innings of a 5-3 triumph at Kansas City on June 26.
The native of North Vancouver, B.C. tossed three scoreless innings over two relief outings against Milwaukee in April and is 1-0 with eight scoreless innings to his credit in six lifetime matchups.
The Brewers counter with veteran left-hander Randy Wolf, who'll make the 13th start of his career against St. Louis.
The 33-year-old is 3-6 lifetime against the Cardinals, including an 8-0 loss in St. Louis on June 4 in which he allowed six hits and five runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Wolf has lost two of three decisions since, including a 5-4 verdict to Seattle on June 26.
The Pepperdine University product is 3-4 in eight road starts in 2010.
St. Louis has won four of six matchups with Milwaukee this season after both teams split 18 meetings a year ago.

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North. Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.
Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.
Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.
The Patriots will make NFL betting fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
